Rainy Football Afternoon
For this project I filmed my own clips and recorded my own sound. I recorded clips of rain outside on plants and nature and a candle burning inside and for the sound I recorded with my phone the storm going on outside and the tv playing football. I wanted to capture the feeling of comfort and nostalgia through a rainy fall afternoon with football happening on the tv. Whether it's a game I’m watching or have on in the background it brings me a sense of warmth and familiarity. I also love how a fall storm can feel really cozy and make you want to just stay inside and watch something. I only showed imagery of the outdoors of the rain as well as a candle inside. The candle was more of personal reasoning but also for the fall aesthetic. Growing up I feel like candles were very significant for fall indoors, but also watching football with my dad sometimes we had superstition that certain candles helped our team. I did not want to show the actual tv and just have the sounds of the game, so it was not just about watching the game, but more the background feeling of it hence the nostalgia. It feels like current times but also a memory from childhood. I wanted people to relate to that feeling in some way either if they did watch the game or it was more of a drowned-out background sound.

Artist Studio Visits
This video is a documentary style video highlighting 3 different “artists.” The concept of the video is that it is a mockumentary, poking fun at stereotypes of artists by bringing them to life through characters who show us their artist spaces and discuss their work. The first artist is Jean Jaques LaCroix. He represents the common thought that artists take any object and consider it art. He is obviously wealthy and acts stuck up and has a “smarter than you” attitude. The second artist is Becky Jones, who is both quirky and a broke artist who has to sleep in her studio. She is extremely earthy and uses nature as her source of inspiration. Lastly, is Penelope Clearwater. She is the artist who only makes work for the visual aspect. She does not understand that she can put feeling and emotion into her art. Each of these sections include confessional style shots with an “interview” and questions to the artists. In addition to this shot style, there are some candid clips of the artists working around their studios. We also included the characters as side roles in each other’s videos to show their connection and add to the storyline. There is also an introduction to each section as if it were a video featured on “Art 21” or a similar site.
The Beauty in Simplicity
In my photography work I focus on nature and things that catch my eye; lighting, shadows, moments in time etc. I wanted to be able to capture this style but in video form in a way that compliments my photography. Nature is something that brings me a sense of calmness and peace because there's so many things to take in. Also I feel like sometimes we do not notice how beautiful a moment in time is and easily brush it off as something we see everyday. I wanted to slow down those moments and have them be highlighted so we see how beautiful simple moments in life actually are. There are many clips of nature since I find walking in nature to be a stress reliever and a way to find so much beauty. There are also clips indoors or in cars of moments that felt beautiful in the way you could hear/feel the peacefulness. You can hear conversations, car radio, television noise, laughter etc. I wanted to capture these moments to show how even without seeing the people you feel the warmth and beauty of the relationship as well as the surroundings. Just this project alone allowed me to stop and find beauty in places I feel like I did not notice before or did not spend a lot of time realizing how beautiful it truly is. It really brought out what this video is all about. I ended up putting the clips in order of time of day they were recorded so the video follows from sun up to sun down but from different days and places. It makes it linear while also nonlinear since the order of the days taken are all different. I wanted to do this to show the same time on certain days that can look different but have their own beauty you did not see on a different day at that time. I found music on pixabay that I turned low so that the natural sound from the recording is noticeable but still has a cinematic poetic feel from the music.
